According to sources, Central Railways has decided to start digilocker at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Dadar railway station along with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus in Mumbai.

Moreover, the passengers are to avail the benefits of this digilocker on a first-come-first-served basis. The locker must first be chosen to hold luggage or valuables. After placing the luggage, the concerned passengers will be given a receipt with a barcode. Scanning this receipt on the scanner on digilocker to retrieve the goods will open the appropriate locker.

In addition, receipts will be made available online along with online payment. This will alleviate the concern of missing passenger receipts. Meanwhile, this service will be a paid one. According to the non-fair revenue model, this facility will be introduced at the railway station.

On the other hand, earlier in an initiative by the Central Railways, the India Post and the Central Railways had announced the unique scheme of pick-up and delivery of parcels from consignor's destination (A) to consignee's destination (B) to achieve first and last-mile connectivity.

This initiative was earlier undertaken by the CR post the outbreak of the coronavirus. The India Post Railway Parcel Service, the brainchild of Central Railway and Maharashtra Postal Circle started from and between Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur and is now available at Solapur, Kolhapur, Nashik and Akola. Moreover, this initiative has been met with good response from the consumers which forced the authorities to extend the initiative.

The local trains, with the COVID-19 pandemic protocols, were opened gradually for essential services employees and later more categories of travellers were added, but full-scale operations still remain suspended as of now.
