The process of building long-awaited new station between Ambernath and Badlapur has begun by the Central Railway (CR).

On Wednesday, October 11, the passengers’ demand finally got a go-ahead for a new station called Chikhloli on the Kalyan-Badlapur route.

It is pertinent to note that railway passengers have been demanding this station for the past 8 years owing to the heavy footfall in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). As per the latest figures provided by the CR, the daily footfall at Badlapur is 2.08 lakh while it’s 1.52 lakh at Ambernath station.

On the same day, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) floated tenders worth INR 81.93 crore for the construction of a new suburban railway station along with other allied works at Chikhloli.

This development is in connection with the proposed third and fourth line between the Kalyan and Badlapur stations of the Mumbai Division Central Railway at a cost of INR 1510 crores. This line will segregate long distance and suburban trains. The MRVC will open tender bids on November 23.

Once the contractor is finalised, they expect to complete in 2 years.

As per the commercial records, the station will be set up 64.17 km from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). It would be located at a distance of 4.34 km from Ambernath station and 3.1 km from Badlapur station.

The first proposal for this railway station was made in 2014. After the railway board failed to respond to the 2014 proposal, a new one was sent in 2017. In December 2020, the railway ministry approved the new station in Chikhloli and also planned to complete the work by 2023.
