Soon, commuters travelling on a local train or an outstation train will be able to report about security-related issues to Central Railway. CR is planning to roll out a mobile application Rail Suraksha by the end of September to make travelling safe.

The said application will be integrated with the railway protection force (RPF) helpline 182 to make it passenger-friendly. This app was first introduced in Pune on a pilot-basis and was being tested since 2016.

Once it is introduced on CR line, it will be made available across the Indian Railways. Initially, Android users will be able to use the application, later it will be introduced on iOS.

Once a commuter files a complaint on the application, the 182 control room at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will track the phone and inform the nearest RPF or government railway police (GRP) station. Officials will attend to the specific compartment.

Sachin Bhalode, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, CR, said that the Rail Suraksha application will not just help commuters but it will also help officers in the control room to determine the status of complaints.

The requirement for the same was first discussed in a railway safety review meeting in January in New Delhi, which was chaired by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. In June, Goyal had launched two mobile applications, Rail Madad and Menu on Rails.
