Thane railway station is one of integral stations at the Central Zone of Railways in Mumbai. The station witnesses thousands of commuters commuting daily and is known as one of the busiest stations at CR. But soon, the crowd of this station will drastically reduce as the CR has decided to broaden the station. This is happening after 20 long years.
After this, the construction of a new station, 'Kopri' will take place between Thane Station and Mulund Station.
The Indian Railways have decided to construct Kopri railway station between Thane and Mulund station to reduce the Thane station's load. On Thursday, the Health Department agreed to hand over the land—which was meant for the Mental Hospital—to Indian Railways. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) will be roped in to rehabilitate people who reside on the same land. The TDR has been given to the Health Department.
Narendra Patil, Public Relations Officer, Central Railways said that the Railways have got the land and very soon, work of broadening the Thane station will begin. He assured that this move will help in reducing the crowd at Thane station.
