Central Railway's First AC Local Flagged Off By Railway Minister Suresh Angadi

In its inaugural run, the local train had an all-women crew including motorwoman Manisha Mhaske and guard Sweta Ghone. A single journey ticket on the local will cost ₹185. A monthly pass between the two stations will cost ₹1,985.

Central Railway's first AC Local which will run on the Trans-Harbour route between Thane and Panvel was flagged off on Thursday, January 30 by State Railway Minister Suresh Angadi. The train start its commerical run for public February 3. The train had to be inaugurated on Tuesday, January 28 but that had to postponed by a day due to technical glitches.  

While this is the first AC local by the central railways, there is an AC locals on the Western Railway as well which has been functional since the last two years. The Western Railways AC local runs on Churchgate-Virar route. This train has several distinctive features including GPS-based information system for passengers with intercom facility, two-sided displays and two double-sided displays in each coach. There are stainless steel passenger seats along with double-glass sealed windows that offer panoramic view outside. For the safety of passengers, the train has an automatic door closure system, alarm system for emergencies and a talk-back facility for communication between passengers and train crew

Not only is Central Railway going to add more AC locals by March 2020, it is also working on enhacing its safety measures. In order to keep the climbing crime rate in check, Central Railway authorities have decided that they will be installing watchtowers at vulnerable spots on its suburban network. 

They will be putting a watchtower between Kalyan and Titwala that will enable the authorities to monitor the tracks. Moreover, a Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel will also be posted on the watchtower along with a weapon and binoculars. The Railway authorities are also checking if a watchtower can be installed at Parsik tunnel near Thane and near Wadala railway station.
