Earlier, 26 AC local services were operational on the CR mainline. They were operational between CSMT-Kalyan and the trans-harbour line between Thane and Vashi railway stations. An average of 3,000 commuters took the trains daily.

According to the sources, the response for the AC trains has been average due to the high prices of AC tickets. On the other hand, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has come up with a strategy for AC trains as they will be procuring them for the Mumbai suburban network.

Meanwhile, the railway ministry is planning to bring down the price of AC tickets. If reports are to be believed, in future, the trains in Mumbai suburbs will be fully air-conditioned.
