The coronavirus lockdown in the country began on March 25, 2020, and ever since then, Mumbai local trains services were put to a halt. Often called the lifeline of Mumbai, these services are extremely important for Mumbaikars and millions travel every day in these trains.
On Friday, May 22, 2020, after 2 months, the local train resumed its services on Mumbai's Central Railway. Currently, the railway administration started the local trains only for railway employees, and special locals will be running between Kasara-CSMT, Karjat-CSMT and Kalyan-CSMT.
The first train after the lockdown was sent from CSMT station on Tuesday, May 19 at 5:15 pm and reached Kalyan at 5:45 am at 6:15 pm. The first train left Kalyan station arrived at Thakurli station at 6:15 am. Officials also informed that the train which left Karjat reached Thakurli around 8.15 am.
Visuals of passengers were shared on social media where railway employees are seen wearing masks. However, some took to Twitter to share that social distancing was not followed on these trains.
