With the relaxation in lockdown norms, CSMT to Andheri, Goregaon Harbor service has started from Monday, November 2. A total of 86 local round trips are being run on this route.
Earlier, only people engaged in essential services were permitted to travel on the locals. In recent developments, women were allowed to use the locals as well. Considering the demand of passengers from Thane to Panvel Trans Harbor, two round trips were started a few months ago. After that, the railways added four more rounds and gradually increased it. However, the route from CSMT to Goregaon was closed. As a result, those working in the CSMT area had to pipe up to Churchgate station of the Western Railway and catch a local for Andheri or Goregaon.
The suburban railway system has been gradually increasing the number of local round trips. In addition to the round trips, from November 2, the Central Railways had decided to run 552 local ferries. As per reports, 44 local ferries have been started on the CSMT to Andheri route and 42 local ferries on CSMT to Goregaon route.
However, officials from the railways have asked the commuters to follow the COVID-19 protocols with regards to mandating masks and following social distancing as directed by the government and health officials.
