As the demand for electric vehicles (EV) has been on the rise, the Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai on Wednesday, December 29, inaugurated another EV charging poll near the Parel railway station.

However, the project became a reality due to the joint efforts of Magenta along with the Central Railways (CR).

Speaking at the occasion, the minister said that the Maharashtra government has formulated a special policy to boost the production of electric vehicles and subsidy is given to two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers.

He also stated that a grant of INR 20 lakhs is given for one bus. Apart from this, government subsidy is given for making of electric vehicles as well as installation of charging stations.

The minister also announced that the EV charging stations will be set up in all MIDC areas in the state for which land and other facilities will be provided.

Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) looks to replace its current automobiles that use fossil fuels, with electric vehicles. In the first stage, about 100 such vehicles will be acquired, not just for official purposes, but also for garbage transportation by the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department.
