Will we see female bus drivers/conductors in the new ST bus recruitment programme?

Over 900 women have applied for driver/conductor posts in Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) which does not have any woman driver as of now

The recruitment process for the driver-cum-conductor post in Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) which consists of total 8,022 posts has been started in 21 districts, including 12 districts of Maharashtra. About 42,000 applications have been received from the state for recruitment.

Among these, 932 applications have been received from female candidates. Notably, MSRTC does not have any woman driver as of now.

The norms have been modified to get more applicants as none of the 450 women who had applied in 2017 could make it to the end. The reasons varied from not clearing the written exam and some not being eligible for the physical and technical requirements. The minimum height has been reduced from 160 cm to 153 cm and the required experience in driving lightweight vehicle has been lowered to 1 year from 3 years.

2406 applications have been filed for the 685 posts of Scheduled Tribes due to the special campaign for the tribal candidates.

Written Examination of 100 candidates (50 questions) for the candidates applying for the recruitment of driver-cum-conductor will be held on Sunday February 24 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The admission form and examination center which will be required for the examination are available on the official website of the ST corporation - www.msrtc.gov.in. Also, the notice will be sent to the candidates through the Mahamandal on message and e-mail id on their mobile phones.

Candidates examining for the post will have to print their entrance letter from the Corporation's website. After that, candidates will have to appear for at least one and a half hours at the examination center for verification of the entrance exams, appealed by the ST corporation.
