Reports are doing the rounds that on Friday, April 22, morning, drivers of wet-lease of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses went on a flash strike yet again. The reason for the strike is attributed to the delay in salary payments.

According to accounts, the strike was observed by drivers at certain depots that include the likes of Bandra, Vikhroli and Wadala. This strike had negative ramifications on the bus operations during the peak hours in the morning, considering not even one single wet-lease bus functioned.

Based on narratives, nearly 175 buses were stagnant at the depots owing to this BEST drivers’ protest. On the other hand, BEST officials have been quoted in reports elaborating on how they have deployed 86 buses from some other depots to serve commuters in Bandra, Vikhroli-Ghatkopar and Dadar.

It has been reported that almost 200 drivers have partaken in this protest. This is the second time in two days that they protested. Earlier, on Thursday, April 21, morning, a flash strike was witnessed for a few hours at Kurla and Wadala depots.

The authority has reportedly stated that it would take action against the contractor for not offering service in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract and for causing inconvenience to commuters.
