In a latest development, it has come to light that now the drivers of wet lease buses at Wadala depot went on flash strike on Thursday morning, April 21.

The flash strike was due to salaries not being paid on time to drivers, a BEST official said.

The BEST employees on contract basis in Mumbai's Wadala, Kurla and Bandra depots abruptly stopped working without any notice.

Owing to this, the peak hour bus services were affected which caused inconvenience to the commuters outside Dadar station.

This also comes at a time when the passenger rush have increased to pre-COVID level after the restrictions were relaxed across Maharashtra bringing back the city to its normalcy.

According to sources, passengers who take buses for Tata, KEM hospitals had to switch to share taxis and pay three times the bus fare for travel.

If reports are to be believed BEST's contract employees have not been paid for the past seven months. Therefore, these workers used the weapon of strike. However, the blow fell on the passengers.

A BEST official confirmed the protest by drivers, but said that the private contractor had a dialogue with them and has now convinced them to get back to duties.

Buses are now back to normal, the official added.

The BEST plans to take action against the contractor as per the terms and conditions of contract.

On the other hand, MSRTC staffers have been on strike since October last year demanding that the state-owned corporation be merged with the Maharashtra government.
