The Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Workers’ Union on Tuesday, October 26, began a hunger strike outside the transport’s divisional office in Pune on Shankar Sheth road.

The workers are demanding that they should be paid their pending dues along with Diwali bonus and extra payment for those who worked during the lockdown period.

However, the ST workers' union action committee has decided to continue the agitation on Thursday, October 28, as their demands are not fulfilled.

Following this, as many as 11 depots in the state remained closed. Whereas, four depots remained partially closed; however, ST services were affected.

The services were disrupted in three talukas since this morning, October 28 creating problems for office-goers and students.

According to latest reports, representatives of trade unions began a hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The workers also went on a hunger strike in front of the state divisional offices.

The strike comes after regular interaction with the MSRTC administration and the government, which has taken no cognizance of our demands so far.

Moreover, the members of the action committee of MSRTC trade unions had a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. After the meeting, Pawar assured that their demands will be considered sympathetically.

Recently, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on Monday, October 25, hiked fares for all types of bus services as the diesel prices continue to rise.

Similar protests were held in 2020 during Diwali when the staff complained of not receiving salaries of three months. Meanwhile, a Government Resolution was released on October 12, 2021, with regards to the employee salaries which stated that 93,000 MSRTC employees salary issues have been resolved.
