The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has reportedly been action against passengers who have been commuting without tickets.

According to sources, these buses are being inspected by the MSRTC team daily. These inspections are currently ongoing in five depots. However, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of passengers travelling on these buses have increased.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, action is to be taken against those who travel without tickets. At present, ST corporation teams have started a campaign to inspect the buses in the district and impose fines on such passengers. The penalty is being levied on the person travelling without tickets, double the fare, or INR 100. Meanwhile, the inspection officer is required to show the route ticket travelled by the passenger at the time of bus inspection.

As per an official release, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made a budgetary allocation of INR 1,450 crores for the MSRTC for the current financial year. However, INR 838 crores of the total allocation have already been disbursed.
