On Thursday, February 18, fuel prices in India went up for the tenth straight day, climbing new all-time highs. The fuel rates were increased by 32-34 paise per litre across metros, as per the price notification of state-owned oil marketing companies.

Post today’s hike, petrol prices per litre now stands INR 96.32 in Mumbai while diesel has touched INR 80.27.

According to Indian Oil Corporation data, it has come across that in Rajasthan's Ganganagar, the retail price of non-branded petrol has been revised to INR 100.49 per litre, whereas in Nagarabandh, Madhya Pradesh, one needs to shell out INR 100.76 for a litre of the fuel. Apart from that, premium petrol prices have crossed INR 100 per litre in some areas of Maharashtra as well.

This is the first time that fuel has been sold at prices in three digits anywhere in the country.

Speaking of metros, the petrol price in Delhi has been hiked to a record INR 89.88 per litre, while diesel rate climbed to INR 80.27 a litre, while the fuels were priced at INR 91.11 and INR 83.86 respectively in Kolkata. In Bengaluru, petrol sold at INR 92.89 while diesel was at INR 85.09.

As the fuel prices continue to soar, the government has asked Saudi Arabia and other global oil producers to ease production cuts, saying rising international oil prices are hurting economic recovery and demand.
