In March 2018, 25 hybrid buses were introduced in Mumbai which was procured by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and was operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking has finally received a payment worth ₹2.6 crore from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in form of operational and maintenance costs for Hybrid buses. MMRDA still has to pay a due of ₹6 Cr.
The BEST undertaking has sought money from MMRDA for operating and maintaining hybrid buses that ply in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
At a committee meeting, BEST member Sunil Ganacharya raised the issue of pending payments from MMRDA for operating hybrid buses in BKC and from other places to BKC. He said that BEST is already reeling under huge losses and the outstanding dues from MMRDA should be recovered.
In March 2018, these 25 hybrid buses hit the city roads. With an aim to reduce traffic chaos and provide alternative transport to commuters, MMRDA procured these buses and BEST operated the same.
An MMRDA official said that till date, 15 lakh commuters have used the hybrid buses and that the sum would be paid to BEST soon. MMRDA, Spokesperson Dilip Kawatkar confirmed that MMRDA has started paying the dues to BEST and soon, the latter will get their dues.
