Tejas Express, the train that gave its travellers the facilities to watch movies, play games and listen to songs on the LCD screens mounted behind the seats, is soon going to disrupt those services due to unhealthy behavior from the passengers.

The Railways, fed up of the passengers damaging the device decided to remove the LCD devices from the coaches of two of its premium trains. Railways have recently introduced the Anubhuti coaches on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express also happen to have LCD screens.

The LCD screens were damaged, wires found broken, headphones were stolen, power switches removed and all this happened repeatedly. Due to these reasons, the Railways plan to discontinue its onboard services.

A senior railway board official stated that all zonal railways had been ordered and the removal of LCD screens would begin soon. According to the official, the order was issued in February this year.

Even though the Railways have ordered the removal of the LCD screens, it is on its way to put free Wi-Fi in all its trains. Currently, only premium trains enjoy the facility.

The first Tejas Express ran between Mumbai and Goa in May 2017. The train became a prime attraction due to the introduction of several facilities. However, just after its first ride many of the LCD screens were damaged as well as many headphones were stolen.

Ved Prakash, director of information and publicity, Railway Board told Hindustan Times,

We reviewed the Tejas Express and found that the infotainment devices are getting damaged frequently. The devices will be removed as passengers use smartphones and the hotspot Wi-Fi facility will be available in trains.”
