The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has taken various measures under the Action Plan to curb the increasing number of accidents on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway. Counselling centres have been set up at every interchange on the 520 km route for motorists and the highway is being patrolled by 23 vehicles, as per the report by Loksatta.

Along with this, a force of 122 security guards has also been deployed. Thousands of vehicles are inspected daily on the highway and so far 21,053 vehicles with tires not in good condition have been inspected. 923 vehicles have been denied access to the highway. Even after taking so many measures, the systems have not been successful in preventing accidents.

Samruddhi Highway has become controversial due to the increasing number of accidents. Due to this, MSRDC has to face a lot of criticism. Violation of other rules including speed limit by drivers and highway hypnosis have been observed to cause accidents. Therefore, a special action plan prepared to prevent accidents by disciplining the driver-passengers is being implemented.

Basically Samruddhi Highway has been designed as per the guidelines of Indian Road Congress. As per the notification issued by the State Additional Director General of Police (Traffic), the speed limit has been fixed at 120 km per hour. Vehicle speed limits, directional signs, notices, and information boards are posted at various locations. But even after this accidents are happening.

According to a senior official in MSRDC, 122 security guards of Maharashtra Security Corporation have been deployed on the 520 km long highway. MSRDC has provided 15 vehicles to the Highway Police and eight vehicles to the Regional Transport Office at its own expense for patrolling the entire highway. Highway hypnosis, as well as violations of rules are causing accidents and MSRDC has started counselling centres at all interchanges between 520 km. Every day thousands of vehicles are inspected and counselled to drivers.
