The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to connect the proposed 'Metro 12' line between Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja with the Belapur-Pendhar line in Navi Mumbai. Therefore, passengers will have an easy and fast option to travel between Kalyan and Belapur in the coming years.

The MMRDA has planned 'Metro 12' route 'Kalyan-Dombivali-Taloja' to connect the cities of Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivali. Tenders were invited for the construction of the route, 20.75 km long and covering 18 stations. The work of this route was to be done in two phases. Tenders were invited for this work. The tender received a good response. 19 tenders were submitted for this work at an estimated cost of INR 5,865 cr. But now this tender process itself has been canceled according to a senior official of MMRDA.

Taking into account the fact that even after taking 'Metro 12' up to Taloja, the passengers may have to travel in reverse to reach Belapur, MMRDA has decided to connect 'Metro 12' and 'Belapur - Pendhar Metro 1' line in Navi Mumbai. The route will be extended by at least two km. Both these routes can be exchanged at Pendhar metro station and can be traveled further. A new tender will be invited for the construction of the newly expanded route.
