As per reports, the Central Railways has initiated an innovate luggage pickup service in order to provide relief to the passengers in Maharashtra.

The luggage pickup service is touted to start in Nagpur by the end of this month and would be later extended to Mumbai. This service would enable the commuters to parcel their accompanying bags, or other items through the pickup service for a fee. The baggage will be picked up before the departure time of the train and will be handed over to the passengers at their berths or seats.

Moreover, Central Railways has also fixed rates for this service. For a 25 kg bag up to a radius of 10 km, ₹125 will be charged. Furthermore, the rate is going to increase according to the distance. Therefore, ₹300 will be charged for 20 km, ₹400 for 30 km and ₹600 for 50 km.

On the other hand, the Central Railways was earlier reportedly considering the use of drone cameras for crowd control at Mumbai suburban railway stations. The use of the drone cameras could also be done on an experimental basis to understand the passenger rush at railway stations amidst the pandemic. According to sources, officials are considering the use of drone primarily at crowded stations like CSMT, Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, and Kalyan-Dombivali as of now.
