Railways to opt for a colour-coded QR system for Mumbai

Currently, efforts are being made to introduce a colour-coded e-pass system to ensure safe travel to facilitate proper regulation of a limited number of passengers travelling on the local trains.

In order to ensure proper control and regulate the passengers who are permitted to travel by the Mumbai locals, the Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) met with the state government to suggest adopting a colour-coded QR (quick response)-based ticketing system.

On Thursday, Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, speaking about the same stated that the state government has approached the company which has developed similar software for Kolkata Metro.

In view of several Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking permission for travelling in the local trains, Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice. Girish Kulkarni's bench has taken up the issue of travel of all passengers. Kumbhakoni in response stated that all private security guards, women passengers, etc. have been allowed to travel at certain times. However, the pay and park facility has been closed in order to prevent congestion outside railway stations. On the other hand, as per reports, the state government wants to stagger office hours and regulate the timings sector-wise. According to government officials, the sectors which can work in flexible timings are expected to be asked to stretch working hours for their staff.
