MEMU will cut down travel time between Mumbai-Pune to 2 Hours

Main Line Electrical Multiple (MEMU) service will run on the routes of Mumbai-Pune, Nashik and Vadodara cutting down the time to reach these destinations and the top speed can go up to 160 kmph.

Commuters will soon have an upgraded Main Line Electrical Multiple (MEMU) train services on three routes from Mumbai- Pune, Nashik and Vadodara. The MEMU will be similar to with Vande Bharat Express between Delhi and Varanasi and has cut down the time by 50 per cent.

Currently, the Mumbai-Pune 192-km route takes 3 hours 15 for completion but with MEMU the expected time will be 2 hours. Similarly, the travel time between Mumbai to Nashik is 3 hours 25 minutes by Panchvati Express which will come down to 2 hours. Mumbai-Vadodara is a 393-km route and is 4 hours 38 minutes apart, which will be revised to 4 hours.

Vande Bharat Express is also called as Train 18, was flagged off in February 2019 with MEMU in Mumbai being tagged as its 'little sister'. It will have 16 coaches and the top speed can go up to 160 kmph. 

The trains will have distinctive features like emergency talkback facility with driver's cabin, CCTV surveillance system and accommodation of 147 more passengers as compared to regular trains.
