On Friday, May 5, the ladies special local train completed 25 years of its service. To mark this occasion, the train was given a hearty welcome at Churchgate station. Minister of state Vidya Thakur was also registered her presence to make this golden jubilee day a special one for women commuters. But the minister forgot her promise to travel in this train to know the problems faced by women commuters.

Minister Vidya Thakur neither travelled in this train nor did she gave a hearing to women’s problems. She simply met some people in her brief stay of 15 minutes at the station and moved out.

Meanwhile, minister Vidya Thakur has assured that more such ladies special trains would be started as the number of commuters has been increasing steadily.

The citizens had experienced the credit grabbing minister at the time of Ram Mandir station’s inaugural function.

Looking at the increasing number of women commuters, the Railways had started ladies special train between Churchgate and Borivali stations on May 5, 1992. Presently, eight ladies special local trains are being run in Mumbai. The railway administration has even installed CCTV cameras in 60 ladies compartments.
