Considering the serious situation still prevailing due to COVID-19 and the problems faced by the citizens, transporters and various other stakeholders of the country, the government has issued a letter dated September 30, 2021. The letter has been issued regarding the validity of the documents relating to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

The circular issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways states that the validity of fitness, permit (all types), driving license, registration or any other related document, whose validity couldn’t be extended due to the lockdown. The documents will now be considered valid till October 31, 2021.

Enforcement officers have been advised to treat such documents as valid till October 31, 2021. This will assist citizens to utilize transport-related services. States and Union Territories have been advised to facilitate online document processing, dealer point registration, online national permit for goods and passengers, contactless services through Aadhar authentication, in this period of a month to facilitate citizens by minimizing their physical visits to the RTOs and Transport Offices.

However, along with this, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also made it clear that this is the last extension, after which the users of the vehicle will have to renew their concerned documents.
