Six months ago, a fire broke out in Mumbai's Monorail, between Chembur and Wadala, which raised questions about its system and functions. From that day on, the services have been stopped. On the other hand, the second phase of Sant Ghadge Maharaj Chowk (Jacob Circle) Mono road has still not seen the day of the light. The construction of the monorail is so slow that it has already missed 11 deadlines till now. The estimated cost of the mono project has increased by ₹236 crore.

Information Rights activist Anil Galgali brought the information regarding the development of the project cost under the Right to Information Act. According to the information provided by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the total expenditure for Phase 1 and Phase 2 is estimated at ₹2,460 crore. Earlier, the total cost of the project was ₹2,136 crore. There has been an additional expenditure of ₹236 crore. Though the MMRDA did not provide the details of the cost and increase of the cost, the increased cost of 236 crore is expected due to delays in the project.

Meanwhile, the MMRDA authority committee, the Executive Committee and the Metropolitan Commissioner have approved the additional expenditure of 236 crores. The approval from the government is still pending and it would be noteworthy to see how the government would react to this since the mono-rail has not earned the returns that were expected.
