In recent developments, over the last 12 days, 21 employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have succumbed to the coronavirus.

This has taken the COVID-19 death toll of the MSRTC to 138. According to sources, over the last 12 days, 646 employees of the MSRTC across the state have been affected by the second wave of COVID-19.

The first wave of the coronavirus affected a large number of emergency services personnel. This included health workers, cleaners, police personnel. At the same time, many in the ST Corporation were infected with COVID-19. At present, the number of people in the ST Corporation testing positive for the coronavirus has reached 5,739.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently held a two-hour-long meeting with the state COVID-19 task force and Health minister Rajesh Tope, mulling over imposing a statewide lockdown. As per reports, while CM Thackeray has proposed a lockdown for eight days, three task force members have suggested 14 days of complete lockdown. Currently, the state govt has imposed a weekend lockdown and stricter curbs during the week.

On the other hand, in order to curb the instances of coronavirus cases, the state government had earlier released `Break the Chain’ guidelines till April 30 to tackle the COVID-19 surge across the state. While night curfew has been imposed from 8 PM to 7 AM, section 144 has been imposed across the state from 7 AM to 8 PM to contain the spread of the contagious illness.
