Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab has informed that no e-pass is required for Konkani people who are travelling to their villages to celebrate Ganeshotsav. People who wish to travel for the festival can use the State Transport (ST) bus services without an e-pass, he added.

Parab further said that those who want to travel to Konkan should reach before August 12 and home quarantine themselves for 10 days. Meanwhile, those who wish to travel after August 12 will have to undergo COVID-19 test 48 hours before their journey and they will be allowed for inter-district movement if the test result is negative.

The Ganesh festival begins on August 22 and a huge amount of people from Mumbai and other prominent cities go to their native villages in the Konkan region including Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg to celebrate the festival each year.

The state transport minister clarified that those who are travelling via ST buses to Konkan will not need an e-pass but those travelling via other vehicles will require one. The booking for the buses has already started from Tuesday evening on the state transport corporation’s web-portal.

This comes after BJP leader Ashish Shelar demanded the Maharashtra government to take a decision for the travel of Konkan people during Ganeshotsav. Shelar had asked the state government to announced e-pass for those travelling to Konkan.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently cleared ₹550 crores to pay salaries to the state transport corporation employees. The ST corporation witnessed losses due to months of lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Parab ensured that enough ST buses have been made available to provide services to people visiting Konkan regions.
