Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashish Shelar has demanded the Maharashtra government to announce e-pass for Konkan natives who want to visit their villages during Ganesh Chaturthi. He said that no announced has been made by the Uddhav Thackeray government.

“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was going to make an announcement regarding the travel of people to Konkan. They said that they will start state transport (ST) bus services but when? Those who suggest performing e-bhoomipujan have not been able to provide e-pass to Konkani people,” Shelar said.

He further said that the Maharashtra government should conduct free anti-body testing for Konkan people who are visiting their native villages to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi while asking the government not to immediately announce a decision for their travels.

“₹250 for antibody tests are not bigger than the health care of our Konkani people. The Uddhav Thackeray government should conduct these tests for free and allow them to go to Konkan with safety and dignity,” the BJP leader said.

Shelar further taunted Thackeray saying that those said that e-bhoomipujan should be done for Ram Mandir haven’t been able to provide e-pass to Konkani people. He also asked the Maharashtra government to lash out on e-brokers who have become active.

“Announce the decision immediately. The government should not take the role of just a watchdog,” he said.

Earlier, Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab announced that the government will arrange ST (state transport) buses for people who want to visit Konkan on the occasion of Ganeshotsav.

The minister said that the devotees will be able to go to Konkan by ST buses during the Ganesh Chaturthi but will have to follow the safety protocols laid by the government to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
