Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai informed that his party has remained committed to its promise of donating ₹1 crore for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. During his visit to Ayodhya in March this year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier announced that Shiv Sena will contribute a total sum of ₹1 crore to the Ram temple Trust.

Ahead of ‘bhoomi pujan’ for Ram Mandir, Desai on Sunday had informed that the amount was transferred to the bank account of Shri Ram Mandir Teerth Kshetra Trust.

“Shiv Sena has contributed ₹1 crore for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya as announced by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray during his visit there. This has been confirmed by the office bearers of the Ram Mandir trust,” Desai, who is the Shiv Sena MP from Rajya Sabha informed.

His remarks come after Nritya Gopal Das Maharaj, Ram Mandir trust official, told the media that they have received no contribution from Shiv Sena for the Ram temple construction. Desai said that he was telling this to clarify that Shiv Sena has transferred the amount to Ram Mandir Trust’s bank account.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray visited Ayodhya before becoming the Chief Minister and later in March to celebrate 100 days of being in power. However, he was not seen during the ‘bhoomi pujan’ in Ayodhya which was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5.

It is learnt that no formal invitation was sent to Thackeray for the ground-breaking ceremony of Ram Mandir. Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had informed that Uddhav was unlikely to attend the ceremony given the medical emergency in the state.
