Thane Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Avinash Jadhav has been served an externment show-cause notice by the Palghar Police Department restricting him from the limits of five districts including Mumbai, Thane, Thane Rural, Navi Mumbai and Raigad districts for a period of two years.

This comes after Jadhav held an agitation at the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC). The protest was held at the entrance of VVMC Commissioner Gangadharan D cabin.

On Friday, Renukar Bagde - the sub-divisional police officer of Virar - issues the notice which mentions nearly 20 crimes registered against Jadhav at various police stations in Thane Nagar, Virar-Vasai, Naupada and Kapurbawadi.

At VVMC Commissioner’s office, Jadhav shouted slogans against him while demanding improvement in the facilities at the COVID centres in Vasai and Virar areas.

The MNS leader also protested over the non-payment of nurses working at Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) COVID hospital. Jadhav said that this was a gift by the government for protesting and demanding better facilities for the coronavirus patients.

"I have been continuously agitating for the rights of the people for the last several years. This is not for me. The agitation that took place in Vasai was done for the COVID centres,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Thane court on Monday rejected his bail plea after the Kapurbawdi police detained Jadhav and other MNS members. Jadhav has been taken to Taloja jail as he was given judicial custody.
