The decision to increase the fare prices came in accordance to the increased petrol and diesel prices. ST has demanded that either exempt them from taxes levied on diesel or face increase in fares of state buses.
The rise in petrol and diesel prices have become a daily nuisance for citizens across the country and has left everybody is fuming. But the recent move by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has become an addition to the list. The State Transport (ST) wing has asked the government to either exempt them from taxes levied on diesel or allow a hike in the state bus fares.
ST employees are already upset about the delay in the payment of their salaries. Taking it to the higher officials, Transport Minister and ST Chief Divakar Rawat have written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding an exemption from different taxes imposed on diesel.
For the past few years, ST has been facing a financial crunch and with the increase in the fuel prices, it will face an additional burden of another ₹460 crore. Along with this, the expenses of toll taxes and other services have also been increasing.
Moreover, the increment in ST employees’ salary has also been due for several years now.
Adding to these financial problems, the increased diesel prices have also aided the issue. The letter regarding the same has been sent to the CM Fadnavis but no response has been received from him yet.
