On Monday, December 6, personnel of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) continued their agitation, making it the 40th day of their strike, stated reports. Officials, on the other hand, claimed that from the 250 depots, operations began at 78.

On Sunday, December 5, the corporation function the foremost number of buses, standing at 1,700 from its fleet of 16,000, mentioned a spokesperson. Since the strike gained momentum during the Diwali festivity, this number is the highest of operations, claimed accounts.

However, a considerable number of employees from the MSRTC have refused to bog down. They continue to hold their stance on the demand for the merger of the corporation with the Maharashtra government.

Whilst the employees strike commenced on October 28, it gained intensity last month. With a considerable number of bus depots non-operational, travellers are facing an arduous time.

According to reports, the MSRTC spokesperson remarked that bus operations so far have begun in 78 out of the 250 depots. So far, the corporation has suspended 9,625 permanent employees and terminated services of 1,990 daily wage workers, stated MSRTC officials.

In spite of the requests and warnings by the state transport minister, Anil Parab, who is also the MSRTC chairman, a considerable number of workers continue to be on strike. Many are doing so outside bus stands and depots.
