Currently, express trains of 13 to 17 coaches can be stopped at Platform No. 10, 11, 12 and 13 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus of Central Railway. However, now the work of increasing the length of these platforms has been started and the Central Railway is expressing the belief that a 24-coach express will run from CSMT by December 1st.

There are a total 18 platforms on CSMT out of which 7 platforms are for local and 11 platforms are for long distance trains. Out of these 11 platforms, platform numbers 10, 11, 12 and 13 cannot accommodate 24-coach express due to their short length. 13-coach express and 17-coach express can halt at platform no.10 and 11 and 17-coach express on platform no.12 and 13. Therefore, the work of increasing the length of these four platforms has been undertaken.

After the completion of this work, all these platforms will be able to accommodate 24-coach express trains. Along with this, there will be an increase in the number of express coaches going to Konkan, South and North India from the Central Railway. As a result, the carrying capacity of more passengers can be accommodated, informed senior officials of Central Railway.

90 long distance trains run daily from CSMT. If the expansion of four platforms is completed, it will be convenient to facilitate the movement of express trains at other terminus. Also, the Central Railway will be able to increase the number of express coaches running from Mumbai to Pune.
