The Union Railway Ministry has concluded the remodelling of the Gangapur City Yard to enhance the pace of travel between Mumbai and Delhi. The works were carried out in July 2021, the ministry said.

Ministry officials added that the speed of the trains will be boosted to 130 kilometres per hour on the Delhi-Mumbai Golden Quadrilateral railway route.

Although the Gangapur City Yard is situated within the 130 kmph speed route, trains had to halt here due to a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 70 kmph. The PSR was implemented given the reverse curves and other obstacles in this particular yard.

In order to eliminate the PSR, the ministry had to remove four existing turnouts and add four new ones using a T-28 machine. Meanwhile, reverse curves on this track were removed with the help of the cut and connection process.

The ministry also replaced older signalling gears at the Gangapur City Station while instituting a new centralized panel interlocking. A new battery room was built while an Integrated Power Supply (IPS) and a centrally located relay room were also installed.

Officials said that the remodelling works at the Gangapur City Station were conducted with the assistance of all departments of the Kota Division.
