The number of passengers on suburban trains was increased after the Maharashtra government allowed ladies to travel in the local trains from Wednesday.

Until now, only employees of the state and central governments and those working in the essential sector such as nationalised and private banks were allowed to travel via local trains.

Now, the ladies passengers have been allowed to travel in local trains after Railway Minister Piyush Goyal approved the same. However, some have expressed their displeasure with the government over the issue of timings.

Earlier, the Maharashtra government wrote to railway administration to allow the ladies to travel in local trains from Saturday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM onwards.

Due to the restricted timings for their travels, many women passengers have expressed their displeasure saying that the timings were not suited for their working hours. They have demanded the government to make changes in its decision.

The women passengers informed they have to reach their office at 10:00 in the morning. They objected to the timings which allowed them to travel via local trains only after 11:00 AM.

Meanwhile, some ladies from the Vasai-Virar region have complained that they were refused tickets by railway personnel when they went to the railway station. They were informed that no orders allowing ladies to travel have been received yet.
