Now, Ladies can travel in Mumbai local trains

The Maharashtra government wrote to railway administration to allow the ladies to travel in local trains from Saturday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM onwards.

The Maharashtra government on Friday allowed the ladies to travel in local trains from October 17. Until now, only employees of the state and central governments and those working in the essential sector such as nationalised and private banks are allowed to travel via local trains.

In a notification dated October 16, 2020, the Maharashtra government wrote to railway administration to allow the ladies to travel in local trains from Saturday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM onwards. 

“It is requested that local train services may be made available to all ladies from 11 AM to 3 PM and against from 7 PM onwards till end of local services for the day, with effect from 17th October 2020 in Mumbai and MMR region,” the notification signed by Secretary Kishor Raje Nimbalkar (Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation) read. 

As per the order, the women passengers will not require QR codes for travelling in the local trains during the mentioned time. 

“During the said period, entry may be allowed to all ladies having valid tickets and to all emergency staff as well. QR codes will not be required for ladies travelling during the said time period,” it added. 

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government allowed metro and monorail services to operate for general passengers under ‘Mission Begin Again’. The metro administration informed that it will start its operation from October 19 while the monorail will be back on track from October 18.
