With the inauguration of the city's first underground metro line, Metro 3 (Aqua Line), on September 30, the fare structure for the 33.5 km long corridor from Aarey to Cuffe Parade has been announced. According to the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited, a distance-based slab system has been fixed for tickets, which starts from INR 10 for the shortest journey and goes up to INR 80 for the longest journey.
Passengers travelling up to 3 km will have to pay INR 10, while passengers travelling between 3 and 12 km will have to pay INR 20. The fare for medium distance journeys of 12 to 18 km will be INR 30 and for 18 to 24 km it will be INR 40. Long journeys of 24 to 30 km will cost INR 50, while journeys between 30 and 36 km will cost INR 60. For journeys over 42 km, although not applicable to the current route of Metro 3, the fare has been capped at INR 80.
A journey of about 20 km from Aarey to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) will cost INR 40. The entire journey from Aarey to Cuffe Parade, about 33.5 km, will cost INR 60. Meanwhile, the journey from Cuffe Parade to Siddhivinayak, about 12 km, will cost INR 20, making religious darshans to Prabhadevi quick and affordable.
The journey from Worli to Cuffe Parade, about 12 km, will cost INR 30. The journey from Dadar to Girgaum, which falls within the range of 6-7 km, will cost INR 20.
The journey from Marol to Kalbadevi, which is about 22 km, will cost INR 40. Meanwhile, the journey from Nariman Point (Cuffe Parade stretch) to the airport, about 30 km, will cost INR 50, which will be cheaper and faster than the road options during rush hour.
According to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the fare structure has been designed to balance the affordability of the public and ensure the financial sustainability of the project. Other services such as passes and smart card discounts will be introduced later to reduce costs for regular passengers.
