Mumbaikars have been waiting eagerly for the Mumbai Metro to start the operations, as the project has offered a lot of hope to the citizens with regards to a comfortable daily commute. For many years now, people have been looking at the construction work across Mumbai and officials have finally completed the first phase of the metro project. 

As per reports, authorities have now begun the work on the second phase has started, and this will help to reduce this stress even more. In a recent development, MMRDA announced the beginning of the second phase of Mumbai Metro and this has definitely been one of the best news Mumbaikars have heard in a long time.

The second phase of Mumbai Metro will start in May 2021, informed MMRDA Commissioner RA Rajiv. The information was shared in a press conference held on Thursday, September 10, 2020. The first coach for this phase of the metro project will arrive on December 11, 2020, and by the month of April, 10 coaches are expected in Mumbai.

Furthermore, the trial run of Mumbai Metro is scheduled on January 14, 2021, which marks the auspicious occasion of Makar Sakranti.

Sharing more information regarding the same, RA Rajiv said Metro ticket prices would remain the same as decided in the cabinet meeting. However, he refused to comment about the metro car shed plan earlier made in Aarey and the thoughts from the government regarding the same.

By May 2021, the second phase of Metro will be in the service, and this will ease a lot of commute-related stress for the people in Mumbai. Metro line 2A will run from Dahisar West to DN Nagar and Mumbai Metro line 7 from Dahisar East to Andheri East.

Some project work on the planned lines is expected to get delayed due to coronavirus outbreak. Officials stated that there have been difficulties in providing manpower, however, work is being done despite all the difficulties.

  • 0 to 3 km - ₹10
  • 3 to 12 km - ₹20
  • 12 to 18 km - ₹30
  • 18 to 24 km - ₹40
  • 24 to 30 km - ₹50
