The number of passengers going to Pune from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai has increased due to summer vacations. Therefore, the State Transport Corporation (ST) started the Vashi-Swargate (Pune) Shivneri service from May 8 for the convenience of passengers in and around Navi Mumbai. However, ST Corporation discontinued this service in just two days due to low response from passengers.

ST Corporation decided to start air-conditioned diesel-fueled Shivneri every day on the Vashi-Swargate route. The first Shivneri service from Vashi was scheduled at 6:15 am, followed by 7:15 am, 2:15 pm and the last trip scheduled at 3:15 pm. Likewise, Shivneri from Swargate to Vashi was scheduled at 10:15 am, 11:45 am, 6:45 pm and the last trip was scheduled at 7:45 pm. However, there was no response to this service as there was no bus to Shivneri at the time required by the passengers.

Vehicles with a lifespan of eight years cannot be driven in Mumbai for the purpose of curbing pollution. Hence ST's Shivneri bus started running from Vashi. However, due to unscheduled departures of ST, lack of advertisement about the new Shivneri service, the passengers did not get information. Also the bus going from Vashi to Swargate used to be full of passengers. However, the bus used to have fewer passengers coming from Swargate. Passengers preferred Shivneri buses to Dadar or Thane. Therefore, the Vashi-Swargate Shivneri bus ferry must have been cancelled within two days, opined a passenger.

The service from Vashi to Swargate (Pune) has been discontinued and these have been assigned to Shivneri-Pune depot. This bus will be planned for passengers through Pune depot, said Monika Wankhade, Division Controller, Mumbai Division.
