Believe it or not but Mumbai, sadly could not make it to the list of top 10 clean railways stations of India. The rail ministry conducted a third party survey taking the factor of cleanliness of the railway stations into consideration. Out of 407 railway stations in India 10 cleanest railway stations across the nation were picked and surprisingly not one amongst the largest railway stations of the country has made it to the list. As a matter of fact, the railway station of Chattisgarh even could not make it to the list. However, Vishakhapatnam has been declared to be the cleanest railway station.

The railways plan to conduct a ranking process every six months so as to measure the levels of cleanliness of all the railway stations. As per a senior official, the railway has a plan to run a ranking test just as they did for the railway stations for the 200 trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi as well. Hence, trains like Duronto and other mail express trains could also be included in this list. This responsibility is entrusted to the IRCTC.

Last year, Mumbai’s Bombay Central station had successfully made it to the list of top 10, but this time none of the stations of the city could hit the list.

Here’s a rundown for the top 10 railway stations:

  1. Visakhapatnam Railway Station
  2. Secunderabad Junction
  3. Jammu Tavi
  4. Vijayawada
  5. Anand Vihar Terminal
  6. Lucknow Junction
  7. Ahmedabad
  8. Jaipur
  9. Pune junction
  10. Bangalore city
