Western Railway will have a new year gift for commuters in Mumbai as air-conditioned local trains are expected to roll out on January 1.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal made an announcement on Wednesday about the first AC local.

How much will the ticket cost

A single ticket is likely to cost the same as a first class ticket, but passes are expected to be priced around 1.5 times more than their first class equivalents.

The train will feature electrically operated automatic sliding doors and the minister also said that he has approved 370 escalators for Mumbai, and CCTVs are to be installed in all the trains and stations in Mumbai for better security.
