Good News! Now, Mumbaikars Can Soon Travel On BEST, Locals, Metro With One Smart Card

In a reliving news for Mumbaikars, now it will possible for commuters to travel by all public transports such as Local trains, BEST buses and metro with single travel card.

The National Common Mobility Card facility will be made available for easy travel from the end of February.

According to reports, in the first phase, railways will issue smart cards, which can operate in local trains and BEST buses, to at least 49 lakh season pass holders in the city.

Here are its advantages:

• This card will make travelling easy, promoting cashless transaction
• The checking system will be the same, but unlike checking physical printed season pass now, they will check the validity on the device
• It can also be used as a debit card along with issuing tickets in passenger transport
• Moreover, the card will also be used to pay electricity bills and other payments.

Meanwhile, reports stated that in the second phase, card-tapping devices shall be placed at the stations, which will taken almost 8-10 years for it to come.

An integrated ticketing system was proposed by MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) a few years ago for single ticket for railway, metro, mono, BEST and other public transport undertakings. However, the scheme has not been launched yet.
