Soon, people will be able to travel from Kharghar in Navi Mumbai to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Bandra East in premium cosy buses. The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) will soon launch its luxury services on the 36-kilometre route.

The BEST undertaking launched the luxury bus service from Thane to BKC in December and it garnered a good response from the commuters.

With Thane-BKC premium service route, Mumbai became the first city in India to have an all-electric premium city bus service, according to BEST general manager, Lokesh Chandra.

These air-conditioned, zero-emission electric vehicles (e-buses), also dubbed as the 'BEST Chalo Bus' will guarantee a smooth, comfortable and hassle-free journey. The fleet will be distinguished by its deep blue colour.

Apart from Thane-BKC and Kharghar-BKC routes, two more stretches - from Chembur to Cuffe Parade and Thane to Powai will get the premium buses. After a detailed survey of popular routes by private buses, the BEST authorities finalised these routes.

To avail the services of these buses, commuters need to reserve their tickets through the Chalo app. As the service will be fully digitised, these buses will run without bus conductors. Commuters can use the tap-in tap-out facility. This will be a non-stop service and will only halt if a passenger is to be picked up.

Along with this, the BEST is planning to place 200 more e-buses on popular city routes in the upcoming months.
