According to latest report, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) will induct a total 10 air-conditioned double-decker buses in its fleet. With this, it plans to start Navi Mumbai Darshan bus, which will be a double-decker bus specially dedicated for tourism in the city by October.
NMMT is the transport undertaking of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
The environment friendly double decker buses will be used primarily as tourist buses to promote the city.
It has planned to cover major attractions in the city that is being promoted as the Flamingo City. For those unversed, Navi Mumbai recently got a tag of Flamingo city.
A few of the important spots are Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial and Coastal and Marine Bio-Diversity Centre at Airoli, Gawli Deo hills in monsoon, Wonder Park in Nerul, NMMC headquarters, various gardens, railway stations, Vashi mini-seashore, water transport at Seawoods, Rock Garden, Palm Beach Road, etc.
The upper deck of the bus will have glass panes for easy visibility of the city attractions. However, based on the response, more buses will be inducted for tourism purposes.
The tender process for the environment-friendly buses is under way. They will help carry more passengers for less fuel and thereby earn carbon credits, said NMMC officials.
