Amidst the conjecture that the local trains are to resume operations from the first week of September for everyone in the city, as per reports, there might be a change in the office timings in Mumbai to accommodate the massive number of people.

The local trains which resumed operations on June 15, after nearly two months of remaining non-operational due to the coronavirus induced lockdown, is currently plying only the essential workers. However, as per sources, in the fourth phase of the unlocking, the locals may resume for the citizens.

According to sources, the Railways are to soon discuss the issue of overcrowding with the state government and the municipal corporation. Moreover, a joint meeting of the state government, the municipal corporation and the railway administration was held back in June to discuss the changes in the timings of the government as well as the private offices in a bid to reduce congestion on train journeys in the midst of the pandemic.

Satya Kumar, Divisional Manager, Western Railway, on Wednesday in a web conversation stated that if the local trains are to resume for the common people, there needs to initiatives that are to be undertaken to reduce the congestion at certain times. He further added that if any such decision is taken, the Railways will start preparation for the same immediately.

The local trains, which is considered to be the lifeline of the city is usually overcrowded in the morning and the evening, which are basically the office hours. Travelling during these times can, therefore, prove to be fatal. Hence, discussions have been ongoing for a while regarding the same to make the journey easier.
