Amidst the pandemic, it is being opined that after the immersion of Lord Ganesha, on September 1, the state government will remove the remaining restrictions with regards to lockdown in the state and restore public life.
One of the main aspects of Mumbai that is yet to be restored is the local trains. Currently, only a limited amount of suburban trains is plying for people who are working in essential services as they have been permitted to use the locals. However, according to sources, a cabinet meeting has been scheduled on Wednesday, August 26, that are to conduct the discussions in view of lockdown relaxations.
Although the state government is yet to state a timeline on when the local services will be restored for the regular office-going people, the Union Home Ministry had earlier directed all the states to lift restrictions on district and inter-state transport to speed up the economic cycle after the cases of coronavirus hit a plateau. Moreover, a decision on relaxing e-pass rules is likely to be taken at the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday as well.
However, in recent developments, the government is to soon permit accredited journalists to travel by suburban trains for which a QR code will be provided. The suburban trains, which are called as the lifeline of Mumbai, have stopped its operations for the people since March this year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
