Central Railway to spend ₹460 Cr on converting 12-car rakes to 15-car rakes

On November 29, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal ordered railway officials to change all the Mumbai local trains to 15 coaches at the earliest in a meeting held in Mumbai. According to Goyal, this move will increase the Mumbai local trains' capacity by 25 per cent.

Since 2012, 15-car fast local train has been running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) and Kalyan on Central Line. Likewise, a 15-car fast local train also runs between Churchgate and Virar on the Western Line.

Central Railway will be spending ₹460 Cr to start 15-car fast local trains between Kalyan and Khopoli and from Kalyan to Kasara. Along with this, a 15-car local train is proposed on Virar-slow corridor for which ₹70 Cr will be spent.
