On May 3, Sunday, two Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) employees passed away. While one of the deceased died due to coronavirus, the postmortem results of another employee are awaited. Meanwhile, on the brighter side, another employee recovered from COVID-19 on Sunday.

The first employee worked at Backbay depot and passed away while he was undergoing treatment for coronavirus at KEM Hospital. He was in the maintenance team for the transport wing and had stopped reporting at work from April 22, 2020. He was suffering from high blood pressure and had tested positive for coronavirus on May 1.

The second was posted at the Gorai depot. He was experiencing fever for a week and was being treated by a family doctor. After he complained of breathlessness on Saturday, the doctor advised him to get admitted in a hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival. As per the procedure, a postmortem is being carried out to determine if the employee had coronavirus.

Alongside, an employee from the transport wing tested positive on Sunday, May 3, 2020, taking the tally of coronavirus patients from BEST to 36. Out of these, 30 are active. Addressing the same, BEST Undertaking said that they have home-quarantined 400 employees so far.

Mirror reported that the authorities had arranged for the medical examination of 8,865 employees and distributed vitamins to 5,000 employees on Sunday.

The BEST buses are the only public transport services that are functional and while the BEST employees have been providing crucial services by ferrying essential employees, they are also at risk of contracting the disease. Here's an exclusive Mumbai Live coverage about BEST.
