Coronavirus Pandemic: 2,000 patients recover from COVID-19 in Maharashtra

With 2,000 coronavirus patients have been discharged so far, the death rate has also come down to 3.5 per cent. Further, close to 83 per cent of the COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra are asymptomatic.

With 12,297 COVID-19 active cases, Maharashtra continues to lead the state tally in India. As of May 2, the state has recorded 521 deaths. However, amid this, comes the good news that 2,000 patients have recovered from coronavirus in Maharashtra.  Mumbai is the worst-affected region with 8,359 cases being recorded so far. Anticipating a further rise in the number of cases in the city, State Health Minister Rajesh announced that 2,000 more beds will be made available for Mumbai. 

Tope also said that under a new process, they will give priority for testing to the senior citizens who have existing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. He added that if need be, they will be treated on a priority basis.

As per the State Health Department, close to 83 per cent of the COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra are asymptomatic. With 2,000 coronavirus patients have been discharged so far, the death rate has also come down to 3.5 per cent. However, the doubling rate of Maharashtra exceeds that of the nation.

As of now, 45 laboratories in the state are functioning which consist of 25 government and 20 private labs. Every day, more than 7,000 tests are being carried out in these laboratories as a strong testing squad of 10,000 members has been relentlessly working to trace and test the suspected coronavirus patients. Owing to their efforts, the survey of 43 lakh people has been completed.

In the meantime, the state has also segregated districts as per the Centre's guidelines regarding the severity of contagion. Currently, of the 36 districts in Maharashtra, 14 are red zones, 16 are orange zones and six are green zones. Here is the complete list of the red, orange and green zones in the state.
