Even though the Mumbai Locals are currently ferrying people engaged in essential services only, several citizens have repeatedly refused to abide by the rules.
According to sources, several people have been commuting on the suburban railway system with the help of fake identity cards. In view of the situation, Western Railways warned the citizens against the same. Meanwhile, as per reports, the number of people travelling on the Central Railway with the help of fake identity cards or without tickets has also increased. In the last 45-46 days, 2,725 people have been found travelling using fake identity cards. So far, the railway administration has recovered a fine of INR 13,65,000 from those using fake identity cards.
COVID-19 happens to be an infectious disease that can spread extremely fast. Moreover, the individuals who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms can still spread the disease which is why social distancing and limiting contact with others, in addition to other actions such as washing your hands and not touching your face, is pivotal. However, due to the coronavirus induced lockdown last year, people have still been battling the economical downfall of the same till now with many businesses shutting down across the country, or people losing jobs as a result of it.
On the other hand, in recent developments, BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal stated that suburban train travel may not be permitted for all immediately. The BMC would first permit women to travel as and when a decision on this issue will be taken, Chahal added. The situation needs to improve further to get Mumbai to level 2, after which this decision (on suburban travel) will be taken, he added.
